Anti-Hackers! started as a small Steam group, when my friend on Steam got hacked. I wanted to help put a stop to this, and thought it would be a good idea to create a group that could inform its members using the announcements, about these phishing websites that so many people fall for.
So I went ahead and created the group and invited all my friends. This was before the time that you could invite all your friends at once, and it was a boring repetitive task if you care to remember.
I wasn’t exactly a skilled designer, but I managed to come up with a group image on Photoshop CS2. Here it is with our old slogan below:
“Anti-Hackers – Preventing the loss of Steam Accounts!”
The group continued to grow and obtain more and more members. We eventually got to 300 or so members and then it all calmed down. I was insistent on getting 1000 members before the end of 2008 (The group was created about mid 2008). This unfortunately didn’t happen, so I set a goal of getting 1000 members before the end of 2009. This didn’t happen either, so I stopped nagging my loyal group followers for a while. I of course set a new goal of getting 1000 members before the end of 2010. This time however, my luck changed and I acheived my goal, a few days before new year!
Around April 2010, the Website which you are viewing now came online. It started off using a Content Management System known to gamers as “webSPELL”. I realise now that I should have went with WordPress to begin with. (We use WP now, and it looks good!)
With the arrival of a new website, I wanted to keep it all consistent. The “clean green” as it was called really appealed to be for some reason, so I stuck with it, and wanted to make a group avatar something similar. I also changed the old and cheesey slogan at this point to something a bit more professional and grown-up. This is what I came up with:
“Anti-Hackers! – Keeping the Steam Community Safe!”
This time, I incorporated the green colour used on the website, and made it more up-to-date.
Things started to pick up since then, and the website evolved and slowly got to what it is now. I created a new group avatar around August 2010. Here it is:
“Anti-Hackers! – Keeping the Steam Community safe!”
Things definately evolve with time, and the group and the website, (quality and value of information, ease of access/use, and content) were doing just that.
On Christmas Day 2010, I decided it was time to get rid of that stupid PHP-Fusion, because it conveyed Anti-Hackers! at it’s lowest point ever. I installed what I should have done to begin with; WordPress! I brought back the old “Clean Green” theme and it hasn’t changed since. By this time I had reached my long and recurring goal of getting 1000 members. It was just before Christmas and it was like another present for me! I was chuffed to bits.
So round came 2011 and I set myself a new goal of 2000 members before the end of the year. From this point in time (May 2011), we seem to be doing pretty well considering the Steam group has 1800 members and we’re not even halfway through the year yet!
I designed yet another avatar for the Steam Group early 2011 to give the group a fresh start. Here we go:
“Anti-Hackers! – Keeping the Steam Community safe!
And we kept going. New pages have been added since the start of the year to help everyone, more admins have beeb recruited to help with everything and more people have joined.
A few days ago I saw “The Matrix” for the first time and was inspired to create yet another group logo. So I did. This time however, things were going to be different. The original colour scheme remains, the green colour. However, I had also downloaded some new creative fonts which I wanted to try out. This image is much more complex than the other ones. You know the way it works by now:
“Anti-Hackers – Keeping the Steam Community safe!”
This is all the history up till this very day. If you want to find out about what Anti-Hackers! actually does as a group, then head over to our About page.
